2017 will certainly be remembered with the introduction of the new Toyota Land Cruiser model. Upgraded with the latest technology, Land Cruiser 150 is a smart combination of all the things we love in Toyota, plus a few new exciting features.
For the past few years Toyota has cemented their place as a number one vehicle seller on a worldwide scale (it's no secret that the car maker rules the markets in more that 190 countries around the globe) and the Land Cruiser plays a major role in that. According to car experts, the sporty 4x4 leads Toyota's sells in the off-road segment in Europe.
Let's take a closer look at the new Land Cruiser 150 model. Starting from the outside we cannot miss the definite sporty and masculine lines. If we have to define Land Cruiser's design in just three words they would be – practicality, reliability and power. (On a close inspection we can notice that the headlights are position high enough to be intact in case of ''deep water'' experience.) Some say the bigger the car the difficult it is to maneuver. With the Land Cruiser 150 it's quite the opposite. Although the overall length of the vehicle has grown from 4780 to 4840 mm, it still moves pretty quickly and has a turning circle radius of just 5.8 m. The ground clearance is 215 mm. Prospect customers have the option to choose from 6-spoke 17'' rims and 12-spoke 19'' polished alloys.
The interior of the new Land Cruiser has also undergone some changes – mostly visible on the dashboard and the center console. In order to give the driver a better visibility during off-road adventures, designers have decided to lower the upper part of the center console. New, 8-inch multimedia screen is mounted on it, along with a climate control system and an off-road panel. Behind the gear shift is where we could find the control panel responsible for the heating and the front-seats ventilation system. New steering wheel, similar to the V8 model, is also one of the surprises of the new 150 model. The 4.2'' TFT multi-functional display, located right behind it, provides vital information to the person behind the wheel.
Significant change is made in the colors used in the system lighting. The instrumental panel, center console and door buttons are in light tone – white. But the real comfort comes with the additional LED lights – placed in the foot area, ceiling and glove compartment. The upholstery palette provides the opportunity to choose from 3 color schemes – black, brown/black and beige.
The new Land Cruiser 150 will enter the European market equipped with a 2.8-liter (130 kW/177 hp) D-4D turbo-diesel engine, 6-speed automatic/manual super electronically controlled transmission (Super ECT) and few trim levels – ECO, COMFORT, NORMAL, SPORT S, SPORT S+. Thanks to the common-rail fuel system, used in the new model, the engine is quieter than before. The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) eliminates up to 99% nitrogen oxides (NOx) – that is why it's Euro VI emission standard.
There is a slight difference in the vehicle performance, depending on the choice of transmission. The 6-speed Super ECT automatic one provides the off-road machine with a torque of 370 Nm at only 1 200 rpm and a maximum of 450 Nm from 1 600 to 2 400 rpm. The Land Cruiser jumps from 0 to 100 km/h in the staggering 12.7 sec and reaches a top speed of 175 km/h. The average fuel consumption is locked at 7.4 l/100 km while the CO2 emissions are 194 g/ km. The 6-speed manual transmission provides the Toyota with a torque of 420 Nm from 1 400 to 2 600 rpm. The top speed, the average fuel consumption and the CO2 stay the same. However, the acceleration is quicker – it only takes 12.1 to jump from 0 to 100 km/h. The 2018 Land Cruiser comes with an independent suspension and kinetic dynamic suspension system (KDSS). The highest trim level is packed with an adaptive variable suspension (AVS) that enables the driver to choose between Normal, Comfort and Sport. Thanks to the ''collaboration'' of the Torsen LSD limited-slip differential and Active Traction Control (A-TRC) the new addition to Toyota's family is unbelievably stable when it comes to off-road driving. There are also few important tweaks that add a lot to the Cruiser – that's the Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select System (MTS), the Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) and the innovative Toyota Safety Sense.
